I’ve been teaching music for over 10 years and it’s always been a passion to share and learn with others. Through private lessons and music schools I’ve taught a variety of students with ages ranging from 5 years old to adults. I have a Bachelors Degree in Education and a Masters Degree in Jazz Studies. I’m also a professional songwriter, producer, and performer which you can learn more about in my bio.
My philosophy towards teaching is to create an environment where students are able learn needed skills while also having fun and discovering their own unique relationship with music. Lessons will be structured and customized to each students’ interests. We will focus on learning technique, building repertoire, and exploring creativity. Devin (7) has been taking lessons for about a year and wanted to learn ‘Where Are You Christmas’ for the Holidays. We’re working on memorizing the chords and getting the timing right with the lyrics.
Quinn (5) has only been learning piano for a month but is already reading music and playing songs on his own. For this lesson we were working on playing harmonic intervals in one hand while playing a melody in the the other.
Audra (10) started her lessons on piano and has since branched out to drums and even guitar. A number of my students are learning more than one instrument and are becoming very well rounded musicians. In this lesson she’s sight reading some different beats while I accompany her on guitar.
Colette (13) is another multiple instrument student. She started on piano and then moved to guitar for a couple years but lately has been coming back to the piano. In this lesson we’re learning ‘Love Story (Taylor’s Version)’ by ear and working on playing the melody in one hand while accompanying ourselves with the chords in the other.
Oliver (12) just started playing drums a couple months ago and was excited to learn one of his favorite songs by Luke Combs. It’s one thing to know how to play the beat but playing along with the song is much more difficult and you can hear Oliver finding his groove and locking in here.
Mylo (13) has been playing guitar for a few months and has done well memorizing his chords and learning songs. In this lesson we’re playing along with music and other instruments which is much harder than playing alone. Mylo is working on timing his strums and locking in with me on drums.
Owen (13) has been playing drums for a couple years and started taking lessons with me about a year ago. In this lesson he’s learning how to buzz on his left hand which came up while working on a Red Hot Chili Peppers song. He hadn’t encountered this technique before so we paused the music to focus on getting that down.
